Trump envoy teases new Abraham Accords peace deals with Israel

By World Israel News Staff

White House special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff hinted Wednesday that a number of countries will likely join the Abraham Accords in the near future, normalizing their relations with Israel.

Speaking with CNBC, President Donald Trump’s top Mideast envoy teased the expansion of the 2020 Abraham Accords, without revealing details regarding which nations are poised to sign on, or how soon a formal announcement will be made.

“We think we’re going to have some pretty big announcements on countries that are now coming into the Abraham Peace Accords,” Witkoff said.

The comments came a day after Israel and Iran entered into a shaky ceasefire, ending 12 days of hostilities marked by attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile launchers and production sites, and Iranian missile attacks on Israel.

Witkoff said Trump placed a high priority on expanding the Abraham Accords.

“One of the President’s key objectives is that the Abraham Accords be expanded, that more countries come into it, and we are working on that my team and in coordination with the Secretary of State and the entire State Department.”

The 68-year-old businessman-turned-diplomat added that some of the countries poised to normalize ties with Israel will come as a surprise.

“We are hoping for a normalization across and array of countries that maybe people would never have contemplated would come in [to the Abraham Accords].”

Witkoff made similar comments last month during an event marking Israeli Independence Day.

“We think [we] will have some, or a lot of announcements, very, very shortly, which we hope will yield great progress by next year.”

Recent talks between Israel and the new Syrian regime have fueled speculation that the government of Ahmad al-Sharaa could be among the countries seeking to join the Abraham Accords.

Should Syria enter the Accords, it would mark the end of a 77-year-long state of war between Israel and Syria, and pave the way for the formal establishment of a mutually agreed upon border.

While the two countries agreed to ceasefires in 1949, 1967, and 1973, and a separation of forces agreement in 1974, Damascus has never formally recognized the State of Israel.

7 IDF soldiers killed by roadside bomb in Gaza

Seven Israeli soldiers were killed in an explosion on Tuesday, marking the deadliest incident for the IDF in the Gaza Strip this year.

By World Israel News Staff

Seven Israeli soldiers were killed in a single incident in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, after an explosive device was planted on the armored personnel carrier (APC) in which they were traveling, the IDF said in a statement.

The IDF identified six of the fallen soldiers as Lt. Matan Shai Yashinovski, 21, from Kfar Yona, Staff Sgt. Ronel Ben-Moshe, 20, from Rehovot, Staff Sgt. Niv Radia, 20, from Elyakhin, Sgt. Ronen Shapiro, 19, from Mazkeret Batya, Sgt. Shahar Manoav, 21, from Ashkelon, and Sgt. Maayan Baruch Pearlstein, 20, from Eshhar.

The name of the seventh soldier who was killed in the incident has not yet been made public.

The explosion occurred at around 5:30 pm during operational activity in Khan Younes, in the southern Gaza Strip.

All of the slain soldiers, who served in the 605th Combat Engineering Battalion, are believed to have been killed instantly.

An initial IDF probe found that a terrorist attached an explosive device on their APC, which was either detonated remotely or triggered to explode while the soldiers were driving through Khan Younes.

Because the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames following the blast, it took the IDF hours to extricate the soldiers’ bodies from the APC, according to Hebrew-language media reports.

The seven soldiers’ deaths on Tuesday marks the deadliest incident in the Strip in the last year.

In June 2024, 15 soldiers were killed in Rafah after an anti-tank missile struck their APC.

The tragedy comes following a U.S. brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran, ending the conflict which broke out in mid-June.

President Donald Trump and other world leaders have suggested that Israel can use the momentum from its victories in the war against Iran to secure a hostage deal and long-term ceasefire with Hamas.

Prior to US airstrikes, Iran reportedly warned President Donald Trump that any American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities would draw a harsh response, including terrorist attacks inside the US by sleeper cells.

Iran has threatened to carry out terrorist attacks inside the United States, utilizing sleeper cells of terrorists already present in the U.S. homeland, according to a report Monday morning.

A report by NBC News cited two U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, claiming that last week, Iran conveyed a message to President Donald Trump, warning that should he order the U.S. military to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, Iran would retaliate with terror attacks inside the U.S.

The message was reportedly relayed to Trump during the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Alberta, Canada.

The report did not provide any details regarding what kind of attacks the sleeper cells were capable of carrying out, or other threats made by Iran.

Early Sunday morning Iran time, seven B-2 Spirit stealth bombers began striking three key Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The limited air campaign, dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, involved 125 aircraft, defense officials said, including dozens of refueling jets and an unspecified number of fourth and fifth generation fighter planes.

U.S. submarines also launched a number of Tomahawk missiles during the strikes.

Hours after the strikes were completed, President Trump warned Iran that any attacks on the U.S. would prompt even greater American use of force against the Islamic republic than the overnight air operation.

“ANY RETALIATION BY IRAN AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE MET WITH FORCE FAR GREATER THAN WHAT WAS WITNESSED TONIGHT,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

In another post, Trump called on Iran to return to the negotiating table and to agree to American terms for a nuclear agreement, including a total cessation of uranium enrichment activities.
