US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor and Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, said at the main reception marking Israel’s 77th Independence Day at the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC on Monday, “very soon, we expect to hear many announcements related to the expansion of the Abraham Accords.”

His remarks come just days before Trump’s scheduled visit to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar next week.

In his speech at the reception, Witkoff declared, “Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.” In a conversation with reporters at the event, he added that there had been some progress in the nuclear talks between the US and Iran. “I hope we’re moving in the right direction,” Witkoff said. “The President has stated his desire to resolve this issue diplomatically if possible, and we are working toward an agreement. Efforts are now underway to coordinate a fourth round of talks.”

Regarding the negotiations for a hostage deal, Trump’s envoy expressed hope for progress on the matter and mentioned that he is in frequent contact with the mediators—Egypt and Qatar—as well as with Israel, “almost daily.”

He added, “Our celebration is bittersweet because 59 hostages are still being held by Hamas. I remember when the female soldiers were released, and I sang ‘Am Yisrael Chai’ with them. I thought that was the most emotional moment of my life. On behalf of President Trump, I tell you—we are working and hoping that next Independence Day will not just be a wish for joy but a joyful reality.”

Witkoff concluded his speech by emphasizing that Israel’s strength lies in its unity. “I call on Israelis to choose unity over division, vision over discord. When that becomes the choice, Israel’s future will be bright.”

Israel’s Ambassador to the US says ‘Israel is a miracle’

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Michael (Yechiel) Leiter, also spoke at the event and said that “The State of Israel is a miracle. After more than two thousand years, not only have we returned to our historic homeland and established a strong, sovereign state—not only have we regained the ability to defend ourselves—but in this war, alongside the United States, Israel stands at the forefront of the global fight against evil. We now have a historic opportunity to reshape the Middle East and bring greater stability and security to the entire world.”

Israel says Iran-backed terror group was trying to restore the facility, which had been targeted before; IDF also struck Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon’s Srifa, it says

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Monday evening targeted infrastructure at a Hezbollah terror group “strategic weapons” manufacturing and storage site in the Beqaa Valley area, the military said.

The attack was carried out after the Israel Defense Forces noted that Hezbollah was working to restore the facility, which had been targeted in the past.

Additionally, the IDF said it struck several more Hezbollah sites in the Srifa area of southern Lebanon.

The Hezbollah activity and the presence of weapons in the targeted areas “constitute blatant violations of the understandings agreement between Israel and Lebanon,” the IDF added.

A November 2024 ceasefire ended more than a year of fighting, including some two months of open war, between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group.

The fighting began on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah started attacking Israel daily with missiles and drones, in support of Hamas.

The ceasefire allows Israel to strike immediate threats, and near-daily strikes against Hezbollah operatives and their allies have continued.

Lebanon’s president said last week that the country’s army now controls more than 85 percent of the country’s south, from which Hezbollah was obligated to withdraw under the ceasefire, though there has been no outside confirmation of the claim.

Israel was also obligated to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon. It has pulled out from all but five strategic posts.

A spokesman for the Houthis vowed that the terror group would take revenge on the Jewish State, after Israel bombed the Port of Hodeida and a nearby concrete factory on Monday evening.

The Israeli bombing, which was followed by American airstrikes, came one day after a Houthi missile struck Ben-Gurion Airport in central Israel.

“The Zionist-American attack on the port of Hodeida and the concrete factory in Bajal is a heinous crime that will not pass in silence,” wrote Houthi official Hazam al-Assad on X, in a Hebrew-language tweet that appeared to have been generated via an automated translation.

“The blood of the citizens and workers will be the fuel for a harsh and resounding Yemeni reaction. We will continue to support Gaza with faith and determination, and strike the enemy deep and disrupt its movements until the aggression ceases and the siege is lifted. The reaction is close… it will be painful and surprising,” al-Assad added.

On Sunday morning, a missile launched by the Yemen-based Houthis sent millions of Israelis in central Israel scrambling to bomb shelters.

Around 9:20 a.m., the missile struck the grounds of Ben-Gurion Airport, after the Israeli long-range Arrow missile defense system and the American THAAD air defense system failed to intercept the projectile.

Since the October 7th massacres, the Houthis have launched hundreds of missiles and explosive drones at the Jewish State, framing the attacks as an act of solidarity with Gaza.

Sunday’s strike marked the first time that the Houthis, who pledged to launch an aerial blockade of the airport, successfully struck Israel’s main international transportation hub.

Following the strike, dozens of airlines have cancelled flights to and from Israel.

Israeli carriers and Israeli-owned regional airlines are continuing to service the airport.
