Russia is now closer to acquiring Iranian ballistic missiles from Tehran just days after launching North Korean-made missiles into Ukraine, according to the US.

At Thursday’s White House Press Briefing, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps has hosted Russian officials several times since February 2022.

Russia increasingly isolated due to US sanctions

“We assess that Russia intends to purchase missile systems from Iran,” Kirby said.

Kirby could not say how close Russia is to obtaining or purchasing the Iranian missiles, but they “haven’t seen them consummate a deal for close-range ballistic missiles.”

“Due in part to our sanctions and export controls, Russia has become increasingly isolated on the world stage, and they’ve been forced to look to like-minded states for military equipment,” Kirby said.

According to Kirby, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea provided Russia with ballistic missile launchers and several ballistic missiles.

Russia launched North Korean-made missiles into Ukraine on December 30 and January 2, Kirby said, and is expected to use additional North Korean ballistic missiles.

Kirby said the US and its allies will be taking steps in response to Russia’s activities with Iran and North Korea.

US to take action following Russian activities

“First, Russia’s procurement of ballistic missiles from the DPRK directly violates multiple UN Security Council resolutions. We will raise these arms deals at the UN Security Council alongside our allies and partners, and we will demand that Russia be held accountable for yet again, violating its international obligations,” Kirby said.

“Second, we will impose additional sanctions against those working to facilitate arms transfers between Russia and the DPRK and between Russia and Iran,” Kirby said. “Third, we will continue to release information to the public and expose these arms deals as we are doing today.

Kirby said it’s critical for the US Congress to “meet this moment” and provide Ukraine with what they need to defend themselves.

“Iran and the DPRK are standing with Russia. Ukrainians deserve to know that the American people in this government will continue to stand with them,” Kirby said.

While Kirby said the international economic pressure Putin faces has detrimentally affected his defense industrial capacity, it hasn’t stopped Putin from trying to increase his capacity.

Israel accused the United Nations on Wednesday of not doing enough to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Defense Ministry agency responsible for civilian affairs in the territories, responded to a tweet by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) commissioner-general Philippe Lazzarini blaming Jerusalem for subjecting Gazans to “collective punishment with too little humanitarian aid allowed in.”

The agency tweeted back: “You can’t keep avoiding the facts: There is no collective punishment. 2 crossings are open. You said you can transfer 200 trucks a day in Kerem Shalom, yet you’re not scraping 100. Over the last 80 days, we’ve adjusted ourselves, all you’ve been doing is stalling.”

Furthermore, Israel has accused Hamas of delaying aid shipments and of stealing supplies from the Gazan people. Numerous video clips shared to social media channels of Hamas operatives commandeering aid trucks for themselves have backed up those claims.

“Humanitarian aid trucks wait more than an hour and a half outside the Rafah crossing, waiting for the Palestinian side in Gaza to open,” Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic-language spokesman, tweeted on Dec. 13.

“Residents of Gaza, why does aid not reach you? Hamas does not care about the residents of the Gaza Strip,” he added.

Israel opened the Kerem Shalom Crossing to inspect humanitarian aid trucks last month. However, the trucks must still enter Gaza via the Rafah crossing from Sinai.

The Kerem Shalom Crossing, located at the junction of the Gaza Strip–Israel border and the Gaza-Egypt border, had been closed since the start of the war on Oct. 7, which followed a bloody mass assault on southern Israel by Hamas terrorists.

This move was meant to facilitate an increase in aid trucks entering the Strip. Israel previously inspected the trucks at the smaller Nitzana Crossing with Egypt before they made their way to Rafah.

IDF airstrike kills PIJ terror leader in Gaza

Officials said that Lolo was a target for his involvement in terror operations in Israel dating from before and during the current war.

The IDF and Shin Bet announced the killing of a chief Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror leader Mamdouh Lolo in an airstrike in Northern Gaza.

Officials said that Lolo was a target for his involvement in terror operations in Israel dating from before and during the current war.

Lolo also played a central role in communications between terror leaders in Gaza and those overseas.

The IDF and Shin Bet praised the precision of the operation even as intense fighting continues in Gaza.

The killing of Mamdouh Lolo comes days after the death of Hamas head  Saleh Al-Arouri in Beirut.

Although Lebanon blames Israel for Saleh Al-Arouri’s killing, Israel has yet to take responsibility for the missile attack.

Hamas itself said that Arouri was one of the select few who planned the terrorists’ massacre of 1,200 people in Gazan envelope communities three months ago, which sparked the ongoing war as Israel declared it would destroy the organization to completely erase it as a future threat.

The closest an Israeli official came to assuming responsibility was Mossad head David Barnea saying Wednesday at the funeral of one of his predecessors, Zvi Zamir, that “Any Arab mother should know that if her son took part, directly or indirectly, in the October 7 massacre, his blood is forfeit.”

ISLAMIC JIHAD AIRS VIDEO OF TWO HOSTAGES

Last month, IDF and Shin Bet announced that Subhi Ferwana, a terror financier in Gaza who transferred tens of millions of dollars to fund Hamas terror, was killed in an airstrike.

Ferwana and his brother used a currency exchange store in Gaza to launder money received from Iran and other major funders of terrorism.

The death of Ferwana in an airstrike in Rafah on Gaza’s southern border is likely to dramatically hurt Hamas’ long-term operations, since his funding efforts were essential for fueling the terrorist group.

According to a joint statement by Shin Bet and the IDF, “Ferwana was one of the few and prominent money exchangers who was able to transfer to the military wing of Hamas the amount of money needed for the fighting.
