Netanyahu recalled that after the IDF withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it handed it over to the PA, which was then ousted by Hamas in a violent coup in 2007.

Israel has no intention of handing Gaza over to the PA once the war is over, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday night as he rebuffed US pressure to do so.

“The Palestinian Authority in its current form is not able to take responsibility for Gaza,” Netanyahu said. “After we fought and did all this, how could we hand it over to them?”

He noted that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has yet to condemn the October 7 massacre, which sparked the Gaza war, in which Hamas killed more than 1,200 people and seized over 239 hostages.

“Abu Mazen [Abbas], 43 days after the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, has refused to condemn it,” Netanyahu said, adding that there are Palestinian ministers who are celebrating the event.

In addition, the PA has a policy of paying monthly stipends to terrorists and their families, Netanyahu said, adding that it also educates its children to hate Jews.

Why the PA is not appropriate leadership

He recalled that after the IDF withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it handed it over to the PA, which was then ousted by Hamas in a violent coup in 2007.

He recalled that after the IDF withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it handed it over to the PA, which was then ousted by Hamas in a violent coup in 2007.

“If there is no change here, what have we done? They [the PA] were already there, they were given the Gaza Strip and what happened? They were destroyed and chased out of there in less than a year,” Netanyahu said.

“There has to be a change here, that is my opinion and I stand by it,” he said.

Netanyahu spoke with reporters after US President Joe Biden published an opinion piece in The Washington Post in which he advocated for the return of the PA to Gaza.

Biden wrote, “As we strive for peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution.”

Biden added that “there must be no forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no reoccupation, no siege or blockade, and no reduction in territory.”

Netanyahu said there was an agreement with the US about ousting Hamas from Gaza and about the return of the hostages.

“I believe we will reach an agreement with the US also about this, that it is impossible to put in Gaza an authority that supports terror, abets terror, and pays terrorists,” he said.

Netanyahu also stressed that the IDF would retain military control of Gaza after the war.

“There is another condition that I set for the day after: the IDF will have complete freedom of action in the Gaza Strip against any threat. Only in this way will we guarantee the demilitarization of Gaza.”

He added that he has clarified that Israel won’t agree to a ceasefire until it has ousted Hamas and it would only agree to a temporary one in exchange for the return of all the hostages.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel won’t rest in its pursuit of eliminating Hamas, noting “all Hamas members are dead men whether they are located in or out of Gaza.”

Israel, Hamas reach deal to free 87 captives – report

Israel, the US, and Hamas have reached agreement for 5-day ceasefire and partial prisoner exchange, with 87 captives to be freed in exchange for terrorists jailed in Israel.

Israel and Hamas have reached a tentative agreement for a prisoner swap and limited ceasefire, according to a report by The Washington Post Sunday morning.

According to the Post, which cited officials familiar with the deal, a six-page memorandum outlining the contours for a ceasefire deal and prisoner exchange has secured the backing of Israel, Hamas, and the Biden administration.

The deal is expected to go into effect within the next few days, though both Jerusalem and Washington have not confirmed the report.

Under the proposed deal, Israel would release an as of yet undisclosed number of teenage terrorists and female terrorists currently being in Israeli jails.

In return, Hamas will free 87 captives, including 40 Israeli women, 13 Israeli children, and 35 foreign nationals.

The prisoner exchange is slated to take place during the course of a five-day ceasefire, with captives being freed in small groups every 24 hours.

Airborne surveillance will be used to monitor Gaza to ensure the ceasefire is maintained, the report continued.

Israel has also reportedly agreed to allow more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip during the ceasefire.

The Netanyahu government is under growing pressure at home to secure the release of the nearly 240 captives being held by terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

Thousands rallied in Tel Aviv last Sunday to demand the government ensure the captives’ safe return.

Over the weekend, demonstrators gathered at sites across the country, with some marching on the capital, calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to a prisoner exchange.

At least 245 captives were taken from southwestern Israel to the Gaza Strip during Hamas’ October 7th invasion.

At least one hostage, IDF soldier Noa Marciano, was killed while in captivity, while four others were release.  One captive, Ori Megidish, an IDF soldier, was rescued by Israeli security forces.

The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security service said Saturday that a number of terrorists killed in an overnight West Bank operation were planning “imminent” attacks on Israeli civilians and troops.

The statement said forces and aircraft struck a hideout apartment in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus.

According to Army Radio, while the military has on occasion used fighter jets to carry out strikes in the West Bank, the overnight operation was the first time a plane has hit a target in Nablus since the Second Intifada.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said five Palestinians were killed. Haaretz reported that four of those killed were affiliated with Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, citing “hospital testimonies.”

Those killed included Muhammad Zahad, described by the Israeli security services as a “senior terrorist” in Nablus who was involved in a number of shooting attacks, including an April attack in which two Israelis were injured in Jerusalem.

The statement said Zahad formed and armed a terror cell of youths, which he deployed to carry out attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

According to the statement, forces also uncovered an explosives laboratory in Balata.

Additionally, explosive devices were planted along and under the streets of the refugee camp to target Israeli troops, the security services said.

During the operation, gunmen opened fire on Israeli troops, but there were no Israeli casualties.

The operation occurred amid the war between Israel and the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip following the latter’s October 7 massacres in southern Israel, in which 1,200 people were murdered and some 240 were abducted, and amid growing tensions and several recent Palestinian attacks on Israelis in the West Bank and in Jerusalem.

On Friday, the IDF said that its troops had killed seven Palestinian gunmen in two separate incidents in the West Bank.

The military said Palestinians opened fire on Israeli forces Friday morning from a vehicle at an intersection near the southern West Bank city of Hebron where Israeli forces were operating.

Reservists returned fire, killing the gunman and the driver, the IDF said, adding that no soldiers were hurt.

Troops also clashed with gunmen during a raid in the northern West Bank city of Jenin and the adjacent refugee camp, capturing weapons and chasing terror operatives attempting to hide in a hospital.

The IDF said a drone struck a group of gunmen shooting at the forces amid the raid. Other Palestinians hurling explosives were shot at during clashes.

The army said troops killed at least five Palestinian gunmen and captured six assault rifles in the Jenin camp. Palestinian media reported three dead, with the reason for the discrepancy in numbers not immediately clear.

The IDF also said it operated in Hebron, measuring the homes of three Palestinian gunmen ahead of their potential demolition. The gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint near Jerusalem Thursday, killing Avraham Fetena, 20, a soldier with the Military Police.

According to the Palestinian Authority health ministry, some 200 West Bank Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, and in some cases settlers, since October 7.

According to the left-wing Yesh Din rights group, there have been more than 185 settler attacks against Palestinians in over 84 towns and villages around the territory since October 7.

Since war broke out, the IDF says troops have arrested 1,750 wanted Palestinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,050 affiliated with Hamas.
